Boat Fire in Braintree
Around 8 a.m this morning, I heard that there had been a boat fire at the Metropolitan Yacht Club, in Braintree, MA. Two boats, in the water, had been on fire. The fire apparently took place around 5 a.m. The local fire department, the Coast Guard and the Mass environmental police had responded. It was thought that one of the boats had sunk. Nearby boats were cut loose from the dock in the hopes of keeping the fire from spreading. At this time, the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage is unknown.

UPDATE on BOAT FIRE: Two boats were totally destoyed by the fire and have sunk at the marina. The two boats were both tied up alongside on opposites sides of the same dock, perhaps 10' apart. Because of the strong, gusty, southerly wind, boats on the same dock
that were upwind, were apparently unharmed. Unfortunately, the same is not true for several boats that were downwind. There is obvious damage to the hulls with the entire outer layers of gel coat is gone. Some other parts of the nearby boats appear singed as well as covered with considerable soot.
The entire area has been 'boomed off' to prevent any contamination from spreading. Tomorrow, they will attempt to raise the sunken boats and move them to a secure location. Then, officials will want the experts to examine the salvaged hulls in an attempt to discover the cause of the blaze.
